The Savio Family would like to extend
our deepest sympathies to Robert Lerro who lost his
father Robert Lerro Sr. on Monday. Mr. Lerro was always
a calming face in the maddening crowd of Savio
supporters this hectic hockey season. His presence at
games was always self assuring for Robert, the team, the
coaching staff and above all the other parents. He never
showed any anxiety or despair no matter what
situation the team found itself in - none more evident
than the two memorable come from behind wins in the
playoffs when he kept assuring every one in the stands
that the team would come back to win and of course we
all know that they did.
Mr. Lerro was a longtime fixture in
Southie sports having coached both football and
baseball. Every one who came in contact with Mr. Lerro
loved him. He loved kids and he loved to coach. After a
big game a couple of years ago Mr. Lerro said it best,
“This is what it’s all about,” said Lerro, fighting off
the tears. “To see the joy in the players’ eyes is what
makes this job all the worthwhile.”
Robert Lerro has passed on his legacy
to his son who came to Savio as an unknown commodity and
very quickly developed a reputation as a great athlete,
student and above all Robert a great young man.
Our hearts go out to you Robert but
be assured as always your father will be looking over
you and now he has the ear of biggest head coach of them
all.
